I use the same amp with the 2 available cabinets. Also USA made model. It's the best amp I ever had. Although without any effects, it is pretty brutal with its sounds. But then again, that's what it is all about. I was wondering if you have any presets or ideas for finetuning it. . . Only minor thing ... the output connection to a P.A. ... it mostly messes up the quality of the sound.

But overall, loud and kicking ass!!

Nice rundown. One comment: it is a bit fast to just plug in SS amps and turn on the PASim (Power Amp Simulation) and expect it to be better than tubes. There is so bleeping much to tweak in the Axe-FX that it is definitely possible to get very close indeed to what you want. Which you should only do if the positives (lighter, compact, lower maintenance) are persuasive enough, of course.

And that's the thing. Like for GJ's buddy, physically it's simpler. One lightweight box does everything that you used to need a whole rack for and quite a bit more. But tweakically, that box can do so much more than a usual rack can that the simplification is only skindeep. Try choosing the right one out of 65 amp models.

What is the signifigance of having the mesa recording preamp in there?

Was that crucial to the W/D/W functionality, or was it just to serve an extra purpose?

Sounds familiar! I think you would probably dig it the most through an FRFR solution. If you get some of the better Cabinet Sims (or IRs, as you have probably read about), you can probably reproduce the sound and feel of your guitar cabs pretty well, plus give yourself a lot more flexibility and versatility. I am about to get myself into a pair of FBT Verve 12ma active FRFR monitors. I'll let you know what I think. Oh yeah, and welcome to the Dark Side. Next think you know, you'll be selling those PRSes and go back to JEMs. ;-)

Hey, trouble311 from jemsite here. I highly encourage your "venture." Like you, I used to count on Mesa gear, and my "holy grail" for the longest time was my 2:90/Triaxis/G Major setup, but believe me when I say...this is the best piece of gear I have ever bought. I went with a Standard, to save some money, but really wish I had gotten the Ultra. The Standard is incredible, but the only thing I am GAS-ing for these days is the Ultra. That being said, though, I don't think you will be disappointed. Dweezil Zappa, Steve Stevens, Devin Townsend, and a bunch of other guys are using these very liberally these days, and they have all fallen in love with them. I think you'll find the best sounds you've ever had, with the flexibility, portability, and "useability" that you are looking for in this bad boy! Take care, bud!

Got the G.A.S. myself LOL! I realize this is an old post. I'm starting to think about a Carvin 12. Do you have any additional thoughts now that some time has passed. I'm concerned about string spacing. I like a wider neck. Looks like you were happy with this in comparison to the Ric.

Lemme think... I used the C1 on vocals... it was running straight into the Presonus Digimax FS preamp. Then in Sonar, I applied a couple of effects... first the Sonitus Multi-band Compressor, followed by the Izotope Ozone compressor/eq. The combination of those two plug-ins does a great job of fattening up thin sounding tracks, particularly vocals.

Was just reading this thinking about how much ridiculous gear you have gone through since I've "known you." I STILL think about that black and white swirled RG2020 you had and the purple USRG30! I went through a rack dismantling last year, too, and this year I went with an AxeFX...and I think I finally found what I was looking for! I drank the Kool-Aid on this one. Have you tried one?
