A couple Friday's ago I had a bit of time to sit down with the Behringer V-Amp Pro and build some patches. Pretty quickly I came to realize a couple things... first, the out-of-the box presets, while decent compared to many modelers/FX units' out-of-the-box offerings, don't really show off the range of models & effects that the V-Amp has to offer; second, the V-Amp's tone controls are a bit "funky" in how they are voiced. In general, I liked the sound of practically every model with the bass & mid controls at 12 o'clock and the treble & presence controls at 2:30. I also preferred the sound of the Ultra-G 4x12 cab simulator compared to most of the digitally modeled cabinets.
When all was said & done, I ended up creating the following 15 patches for recording:
BANK 1: A=Fender Twin, B=Fender Bassman, C=Fender Tweed, D=Vox AC30TB, E=Matchless
BANK 2: A=Marshall JTM45, B=Plexi 100, C=JCM800, D="Brown" modded Marshall, E=Soldano
BANK 3: A=Roland JC120, B=Boogie MkIIc clean, C=Boogie MkIIc lead, D=Mesa Tremoverb, E=Mesa Dual Rectifier
Since then I've had time to sit down and record a few demo tracks using my new patches. The first track features a PRS Singlecut Standard Satin though the following patches: JCM800 for left rhythm guitar, Matchless for right rhythm guitar, and MkIIc lead for solos...
Another V-Amp Demo
This track features a G&L ASAT Classic through the following patches: Tweed for left rhythm guitar, Tremoverb for center rhythm guitar, and Soldano for the solo (delay added through Sonar)...
Yet Another V-Amp Demo
This demo features a Gibson Les Paul Classic with the following patches: Plexi/Tweed for left rhythm guitar, AC30 for right rhythm guitar, and manually-harmonized Soldano w/ delay for solos...
And One More V-Amp Demo
The last demo features a Gibson SG Standard and the following patchess: Bassman for left rhythm guitar, JCM800 for right rhythm guitar, and Matchless w/ delay for solos...
Final V-Amp Demo
Again, not bad tone for basically being a "plug in and go" setup. The total time spent on each tune was about 2-3 hours, including coming up with the parts, finding an ok drum loop, and recording the guitar + bass tracks.
